16 September 2017 – Sion Airport
This year was held, Remote 6 years since, the famous airshow of Zion.
Always this is an event not to be missed, with always very interesting attendance from all over Europe.
This year the guests were many but unfortunately, due to different reasons, the event was not the usual levels. The planes were parked on static so as to make impossible the photographs or just enjoy them in their entirety to the naked eye. Those in flight, due to very restrictive rules imposed by the organization, They were operating in the stratosphere, making very difficult the evolution of the times. If we add that the public provision is perfectly controsole understand well that the difficulties multiply. These restrictions have affected especially the Frecce Tricolori, forced to perform a non-traditional percentage and, above all, SOLO WITHOUT!!! Our drivers have they still tried hard but the show has suffered a lot. There were also a lot of dead time between a show and the other.
This has not, however, discouraged the public that crowded the 2 days of performances, remaining for several hours in upturned nose (very upturned) to enjoy the evolutions.
There were virtually all fighters of the main European Air Forces (F 16, F 18, Gripen, Rafale and Eurofighter) who performed (with the sole exception of the F 16 Only Belgian Display) one behind the other. The best display, for a change, It was certainly that of the Rafale, entrusted to the official demonstrator Armée de l'Air that, with his usual great skill, It showed the great acrobatic skills of the French bireattore. Another interesting exhibition that of man flying Frank Zapata with his hoverboard which he traveled the length and breadth of the entire runway Valais. Beautiful also the performance in training 2 Silver aliane Blanik, with the characteristics inverted arrow wings.
Also interesting are all the intervening historical aircraft (Spitfire, Hurricane, P 40, TBM Avanger, DC 3) But who flew only every other day and then, Saturday, it was not possible to see them all in flight.
Overall a good event, marred by questionable organizational choices but which always remains a European "must"..
